Streaming services need personality, they need brand identity, and they need imagery. My system of icons can provide all three. The neutral black and white are easily customizable to match the brand's palette. Among a string of movie titles, the brand is easily forgotten, but these icons can help the brand maintain a presence on all screens.
Using references, I drew up some ideas. I brought the ones I liked into Illustrator to vector them and make the shapes equal and proportionate to each other.
This assignment instructed me to create a system of informational icons for a client of my choosing. I chose movie genres before I had any visual ideas. During the brainstorming process, facial expressions and related imagery came up often, so I rolled with it. I admit it's an imperfect system, as the idea may not translate well to other genres (action, thriller, documentary, etc.) So I learned to consider the versatility of a concept before diving into the composition.
